A Look Into The History Of Technology

A Look Into The History Of Technology

Some futbol fans may only think of technology when we’re taking a look at the super bowl odds however technology runs far deeper than that.

Come with us as we take a look into the history of technology and look into a few technological landmarks.

What is Technology?

Technology plays an important role in today’s society however what is technology exactly and is it associated with electricity?

The truth is that technology refers to the use of certain skills, methods, and processes to create an object with the intention to make life easier. Over time people began to improve technology to make it better, safer, and simpler to use. This means that most of the technology we see today has been based on previous inventions.

Technology began with the human race and evolved with more and more people upgrading and coming up with new technology. The more people wanted to make life simpler the more technology they came up and the more people were constantly wanting to improve that technology.

Technological Inventions That Changed And Laid The Foundation

There are a few technological inventions that have laid the foundation of today’s world. In this segment, we take a look at these inventions and how they’ve changed over time and have changed the world.

The Battery

The battery was invented by a Physician, Chemist, and lay Catholic Alessandro Volta in 1800. Volta had discovered that when certain fluids were placed together they created a continuous flow of electrical power when they were used as a conductor. However, it wasn’t until 1868 that Georges Leclaché, a Frenchman, invented what was called the Leclaché cell. This cell laid the foundation for today’s batteries.

Today you can recharge a battery so that it can power a device for a long period of time such as cellphone batteries, and car batteries. There are also different types of batteries such as lithium batteries, alkaline batteries, carbon-zinc batteries, and many more.

The Computer

The first mechanical computer was created by Charles Babbage in 1837. Charles Babbage was a philosopher, mathematician, mechanical engineer, inventor, and a great asset to society in the 1800s.

The first computer which was known as the Analytical Engine had a basic flow control, punch cards, integrated memory, and an ALU which stands for Arithmetic Logic Unit. However, the first electronic general-purpose digital computer was created in 1945. This computer is said to have filled an entire room. It wasn’t until 1973 that the world saw the very first personal computer.

The computer laid the foundation for today’s desktops and laptops and needless to say there have been a lot of computer improvements.

The Calculator

The first calculator was invented by the French mathematical philosopher Blaise Pascal. The first calculator was in fact called the Pascal. It was also known as the arithmetic machine and was invented between 1642 and 1644.

The Arithmetic Machine laid the foundation for modern calculators which now can be used to calculate sin, cos, tan, and even calculate logarithm. The modern calculator can now also be found on mobile devices, laptops, and desktops.

The Cellphone

To understand how the cellphone came about one needs to understand that the brainchild behind the cellphone comes from the telephone. There has been a debate about who invented the telephone however the first US patent was awarded to Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. However, it was in that same years that Elish Gray designed in Highland Park, Illinois that used a water microphone.

It wasn’t Martin Cooper and a team he led that built the first portable mobile phone between 1972 and 1973. Martin Cooper was an American Engineer.

Today, cellphones have apps, act as alarm clocks and cameras, and have many other functions.

Bottomline

Technology has evolved over many years with many simple inventions made more complex. To understand where technology is we need to understand where technology comes from. Always remember that the past is the basis of the future.
